What clothes does a fashionable man wear for his wedding? And garlands for him, please? And gifts for him?

Namaste

In this case, since neither one of them has parents, the gifts will come from the bride.

What would be suitable for her to give him?

Also, what gifts or flowers are to be given to the wedding guests?

Other suggestions, especially since neither bride or groom has family, but both have friends.

Thank you in advance

What clothes does a fashionable man wear for his wedding? And garlands for him, please? And gifts for him?
clothes for the fashionable bridegroom?- why? gym clothes of course!

but class and style are only displayed by formal suits or at least full length shirts, trousers and a long think blingy chain-from the neck.

The bride could really gift him that mobile/laptop/designer clothes/watch/electric shave etc he always wanted.

Flowers should be colourful and neither red nor white (they symbolise funerals! for Heaven's sake!)
Reply:Myself, I wear a Kilt. A personal gift that just he would enjoy? I would say a bottle of Scotch, his favorite cigar.

But usually the gifts are bought for both of them.

'Alice in Wonderland' themed party?

So im turning 15 next month, and i've been looking for ideas for my party. I've come across a masked ball, water party, poker party and then i came across 'Alice in Wonderland' themed party. Ive been researching some ideas and ive put them together with some of my own, im not sure if its too childish, because i dont want to seem babyish, almost like im just getting away with it, if you know what i mean.

If you have any ideas, please tell, it will be much appreciated:

My Idea:

1. Playing cards as invitations

2. Tea Party in conserventry

3. Croquet in garden

4. Poker and music in living room

5. Flowers throughout the house

6. Guests dress up as Wonderland characters

7. Playing card garlands

8. Food labelled 'Eat Me' and 'Drink Me'

10. Photoes of me and friends in 'Wonderland'.

'Alice in Wonderland' themed party?
That's unbelievably creative and imaginative! (Score!)

I think this sounds like it could be loads of fun, especially if people come in fancy dress and you call it your Un-UnBirthday Party!

If you need any more inspiration, try the links below.... and you might want to have a parent with bunny ears declare "We're late, we're late for a very important date" as you usher your friends to the dining area...

Have fun and Happy Birthday!
Reply:No problem - Happy Birthday, sweetheart :) Report It

Reply:I don't have any ideas on how to make this party any better, but I have to say, it sounds like it'll be a blast. I asked my 14 year old niece about it just now and she thought it was a really cool idea!
Reply:sounds great try ebay and such for costumes and party supplies even if you dont buy from there it gives you some ideas hope you have a great day :)
Reply:Alice and Wonderland isn't such a bad theme for a 15-year-old girl's party. i mean, if you want to have that party cause you like it, then go right ahead.
Reply:I must admit I'm sorry I didnt think of that myself! :)

Dressing up sounds really cool--you should be Alice of course.

Check stores like Party America or Oriental Trading Company for your card garland and table settings.

And you could look on ebay for costumes and signs.

Also, I would suggest asking each invitee what they plan to dress up as to make sure you dont have too many chesire cats!

It sounds like a fantastic party!
Reply:Sounds neat. Check party supply stores for themed decorations and make sure you have people coming as all the different characters so you don't have all bunnies and no mad hatter!
Reply:that sounds like an awesome party!
Reply:Dress up as your favorite character ?

or is that too little kidish ? lol.

Something for spring. It's just a rough draft. Might not be as good as the last. What do you think?

Spring Steps In

O, with welcomed, raptued sighs,

the meadow, at last, spring came and called.

With long and twisting, budding eyes,

the trees lavished their green-entralled.

The flowers offered their best perfumes

to scent her sacred bed while birds

wild with their holy tunes danced about

her garland'd head.

I think that when the leaves are just budding on the trees and not fully out yet they are like the trees eyes.

Something for spring. It's just a rough draft. Might not be as good as the last. What do you think?
This is quite lovely. The imagery is clear and elegant, creating a wonderful spring picture of a tree in the meadow, attending by songbirds. I think it is a beautiful poem. Thank you.
Reply:that doesnt rhyme. butit is very descriptive good job!
Reply:i dont like it. sorry. i hate spring, so that might be part of it
Reply:awww so pretty!!! i wish i could be a good poet like you
Reply:I see what you mean about the leaves budding.

Is this acceptable?

Lorraine and I enjoyed the things of nature, until she had TB in her hip. She spent two years in hospital

With tenderness did I first hold you in my arms, my child.

My first-born babe, my daughter whose life would entwine

itself with mine. For we did by blood, inherit the love of England's fields and flowers. All that did run and creep and fly did by gift belong to us.

Oh, thou of beauty fair, whose tresses of golden sunlight did garland thy face in framed perfection to others envy. In childish glee did thou set thy path to follow that of thy father, who in joy did find happiness in the company of thine innocence.

We two, with delight in our hearts did seek that in natures bounteous beauty, freely given, and eagerly sought, all that was minute to others eyes. Thus in perfect relationship did thou impart unto I and I likewise unto thee a bond of undissoluble cord.

Is this acceptable?

Reply:Acceptable? Absolutely

Exceptional writing, and I enjoyed reading it. I can feel the love and tenderness felt by both. I don't generally get misty over poetry, but this one got me. Well done.
Reply:A touching and beautiful tribute to a daughter. (One error: you must say "me" instead of "I" thy father, since you need a direct object pronoun rather than a subject pronoun).
Reply:This is a beautiful poem for your daughter. I am moved and yes it is more than acceptable. Very good. Exceptional,
Reply:Oh Robert, I was moved to tears by this tribute. It is so lovely. It is more then acceptable. It is so heartfelt.

Base of a lilac color for my wedding but what would best my best accent colors??! Help!?

I am having an outdoor wedding this August with the base color of light purple (varying shades between periwinkle and lavender), but I am stuck! What would be my best bet for my accent colors? Now I already have a lot of white things (garland etc, plus my guest book and pillows) but, what would be a stand out color to go with lilac that I could incooperate in everything?!

I need to have something that stands out but nothing too gawdy.

Also best answer will go to whoever can help me figure out how to implement that color(s) on my tables, flowers, etc and be able to know where to put all the colors together at!

Thanks!

Base of a lilac color for my wedding but what would best my best accent colors??! Help!?
BEAUTIFUL color choice! I would say SILVER. It is something that could be incorperated into everything and gives a very modern feel compared to old which has more of a vintage feel to it. here are some Ideas:

Flowers:

Siver Ribbon wrapped around the boquet along with silver baby leaves (fake)

Centerpiece:

It depends on what is is but a cool Idea would be to buy some small decorative candle mirrors (biglots would have them cheep) and place fresh purple flowers in vintage or modern sinver vases. or use the same mirrors and place glass bowls with lilac colored water (food dye) and multipurple glass pebbeles in the bottom (that is what I used for my wedding except pink and silver were my colors.)

Purple and silver tulle bows:

Take the two color and make big bows to line your walk way secure with (fake) pearl pushpins (the big ones) and tape if you need it. Fluff tulle after hanging.

Dinnerware:Purple Napkins and silver silverware (lol!)

tables: if you are doing round tables then place longer silver round table cloths on the bottom and top with a smaller purple tablecloth.

To hold favors and such: buy some wood baskets and spray paint them silver. then buy some purple fabric and line them.

I really hope this helps. :) I can send you some pictures from my wedding if you would like a visual. Just email me. Congrats! ~Brooke
Reply:Think contrast but similar not too far apart on the color wheel. Since your wedding is in August tap into fall colors. Maybe a burgundy red or cranberry. They sell black cherry colored calla lillies that you could mix in with your other flowers. You could also do ribbons on your favors, petals on your tables....once you pick your color you can do anything.

I think I would stay away from pastel or "light" color shades because they will blend too much with the lilac and periwinkle. That and with all the white you're using, consider something darker to really make the accents pop.
Reply:Lilac with celadon green and cream. Your husband-to-be might appreciate having some green in there too!

Reply:A nice yellow would be beautiful; you could also have a petal pink or go with a darker purple.

For our wedding we had lilac, pink, yellow and light teal - so had lots of fun coordinating and decorating!
Reply:I used lilac in my wedding and I also used deep purple. I got married in October, by the way, but I still think it looked great!
Reply:Black! It will really make your white and purple colors pop! And it will give an elegant feel to it.(even though you are outside)
Reply:A sort pink color called Ashes of Roses.
Reply:Maybe a light yellow...
Reply:baige or a light green
Reply:They and work out some complimentary colours. Get a swatch of your lilac fabric and place it against other colours to see what jumps out at you. (an easy way to do this is to go to davidsbridal.com and find a bridesmaid dress with a sash or accent, shange the dress colour to lilac and slowly select the rest of the colour choices to change the sash colour.)

Personally this is what i have...

My bridesmaids are wearing lilac, my flowergirl is in pink and the mothers have chosen to wear green.

My flowers/bouquets are light and dark pink roses with lilac orchids to tie the colours together, green in the leaves.

The boys are in black and white with the colours brought in with their buttonholes. (Black and white for all their clothing including ties only colour in flowers)

My tables are being set with white table cloths with white roses and greeenery as table centres with pink and lilac coloured petals scattered. There will also be candles lighting the individual place settings for guests.

Your accent colours would become smaller items of your wedding. Ties, buttonholes, focus table settings etc with lilac being some part of everything (lilac tape/binding on a pink bouquet so the flowers stand out from the outfits etc)
Reply:I'm having an August wedding and I am using plum/eggplant purple as a secondary color to lilac and white. I love the way the lilac and the dark purple tones meld together. They have a lot of things in this color of dark purple and there is a bold contrast between the light and dark. I'm having plum tableclothes w/ lilac runners and plum candles w/ floral arrangments of mainly lilac colors w/ some plum. The cake will have both colors. Most of the tulle will be lilac w/ some plum. I'm tying lilac bows around the back of the chairs. I was thinking about, but decided against, using maroon and gold. I still love the colors together, but decided using lilac and plum would be easier. Do a search on Butterfly Wishes in Precious Jewels; it has the lilac, maroon, and gold. :) Good luck.
Reply:I think green would look really nice.

Or silver.

Or you could go with a darker colour purple for your accent colour (e.g. plum)

Reply:Well... With Lilac a very pretty and pop of color is salmon/coral it will add that bit of late summer/fall (august) color pallet... As far as the decore the biggest thing is to have fun keep it simple but elegant. honestly stay with white table clothes and tie a lilac sash around chairs now for centerpieces a nice tall clear vase w/ the i believe its something like grass you can swirl in the vase and do a simple but colorful (oranges limes lilacs yellows) arrangement on the top w/ a possible whimsical touch by adding several flowers to add height... or if you are just doing it outside open air you could def. do several vases on the table of different heights and add candles to some and in other simple fill with water and add a nice large bloom of hydrengea or an orchid to float it is very simple and beautiful!!! hope this helps!!! oh but if you do have it outside in a tent or even a room I would add some crystals some how to add a little bling or sparkle!!!

Beltane Celebration?

Today is Beltane (Wiccan celebration). How do you celebrate it? How can I celebrate it without doing the flower garland or May pole? Only answer if you HAVE an answer to give, please.

My grown kids, granddaughters, some close family friends, and I will be holding a small family ritual %26amp; picnic outside this coming Sunday to celebrate.
Reply:Well as Beltane is a Celtic festival, I'm incorporating some older traditions. I'll be extinguishing all the lights in my house and lighting a single candle. A far cry from a bonfire I know, but I'm sure a bonfire in an apartment building would go against restrictions hehe.

Then, after a brief ritual, I will "re-light" my candles one by one. I won't be jumping over any though.

Add: Wow why are people giving thumbs-down to Moiraes Fate? She can't help it if she's busy and can't observe it. Up until yesterday I thought I was going to be like that.
Reply:again Belatine is an irish custom and means May.the so-called fire festival is the lighting of a bonfire and the village gathers around in, eats and chats until the fire has gone out.we do not jump over it any more.
Reply:I didn't even think about it. Things have been so hectic with the moving to a new country thing in the last month that it didn't even occurr to me. Honestly, I doubt I'll do anything. I have more important things to worry about.
Reply:I'm going on a picnic this weekend. :-D

And I'll probably prune back my dad's plants. I can make garlands out of the flowers. It's about the season to start drying blooms again... At least here in the south.
Reply:Candles flowers broom and food! Yes, I do celebrate! Have fun!

For Christmas, what varieties of greens do you have in the UK for wreaths, garlands, and a tree?

And what flowers do you have for that season?

thank you

For Christmas, what varieties of greens do you have in the UK for wreaths, garlands, and a tree?
Holly and Ivy and of course Mistletoe, for trees the pine or Christmas tree. For flowers a very traditional one is the Poinsettia that produces a very vivid red flower.
Reply:Holly, ivy, most coniferous branches, and of course the tree - which in my case is a norseman pine. Flowers tend to be poinsetta's (that well known mexican weed!)
Reply:Poinsiettas, holly, ivy, christmas roses,mistletoe
Reply:The same as in America. We stole all our christmas greenery customs from the UK. Didn't you know that?
Reply:Holly

Poetry Analysis Help!!!!?

I need help doing a poetry analysis on The Invitation by Percy Shelley.....

Best and brightest, come away,

Fairer far than this fair day,

Which, like thee, to those in sorrow

Comes to bid a sweet good-morrow

To the rough year just awake

In its cradle on the brake.

The brightest hour of unborn Spring

Through the Winter wandering,

Found, it seems, the halcyon morn

To hoar February born;

Bending from Heaven, in azure mirth,

It kissed the forehead of the earth,

And smiled upon the silent sea,

And bade the frozen streams be free,

And waked to music all their fountains,

And breathed upon the frozen mountains,

And like a prophetess of May

Strewed flowers upon the barren way,

Making the wintry world appear

Like one on whom thou smilest, dear.

Away, away, from men and towns,

To the wild wood and the downs -

To the silent wilderness

Where the soul need not repress

Its music, lest it should not find

An echo in another's mind,

While the touch of Nature's art

Harmonizes heart to heart.

Radiant Sister of the Day

Awake! arise! and come away!

To the wild woods and the plains,

To the pools where winter rains

Image all their roof of leaves,

Where the pine its garland weaves

Of sapless green, and ivy dun,

Round stems that never kiss the sun,

Where the lawns and pastures be

And the sandhills of the sea,

Where the melting hoar-frost wets

The daisy-star that never sets,

And wind-flowers and violets

Which yet join not scent to hue

Crown the pale year weak and new;

When the night is left behind

In the deep east, dim and blind,

And the blue noon is over us,

And the multitudinous

Billows murmur at our feet,

Where the earth and ocean meet,

And all things seem only one

In the universal Sun.

Easter Parade-Has anyone seen the movie Easter Parade and what was your favorite part of the film?

I loved all part of this movie,

Easter Parade is a 1948 musical film starring Fred Astaire and Judy Garland. It features music by Irving Berlin, including some of Astaire and Garland's best-known songs, such as "Steppin' Out With My Baby" and "We're a Couple of Swells."

The film won the 1948 Academy Award for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. It also received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical.

Don Hewes (Fred Astaire), a Broadway star, is out buying Easter presents for his sweetheart, starting with a hat and some flowers ("Happy Easter"). Then he goes into a toy shop, and buys a cuddly Easter rabbit, after persuading a young boy to part with it and buy a set of drums instead ("Drum Crazy"). He takes the gifts to his dancing partner, Nadine Hale (Anne Miller). She explains that she has had an offer for a show, which would feature her as a solo star. Don tries to change her mind, and it looks as if he has succeed.

Easter Parade-Has anyone seen the movie Easter Parade and what was your favorite part of the film?
I love the part where Judy Garland is trying to prove to Fred Astaire that she can make men look at her. So, she walks about a foot ahead of him, and, sure enough, men begin giving her double takes. Not one passes her without looking at her, most with a startled or bemused look. Then, the camera shows her from the front. As each man gets closer, she makes weird faces! *giggle*

I think that is the cutest, funniest bit because he decides that perhaps she WILL make a good partner after all.

Runnerup might be when she wears the feathery dress that starts shedding during one of their dance numbers. This is based on a routine Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire did once; Ginger wore a similar dress, and it, too, started shedding!

Also very amusing is the musical number "The Girl on the Magazine Cover", or at least I recall it being funny. Don't they spoof this type of number? Perhaps I'm mistaking it for another film, but I keep thinking that the rhymes the women say are very funny~intentionally.

Can you tell that I really enjoy this film? I didn't see it listed anywhere on the cable listings. Maybe it will be shown today. (It's nearly 4 a.m. Sunday!) // Yeah! TCM will be showing it~if I manage to wake up by then. If I go to bed within the next 10 minutes or so...
Reply:No Spencer I haven't seen it. I'll look for it.

Outside wedding... metal arches?

Okay, so I've been thinking about having an arch at my wedding... We don't have a large budget so it will be kind of inexpensive. Here's what i had in mind:

Arch:

http://www.balloons-galore.net/pd_weddin...

Garland: (the white daisies)

http://www.balloons-galore.net/pd_6_foot...

and white organza... Do you think this will look bad since the flowers are more of a plastic than real? Ideas or suggestions??

Also, our wedding is August 9, 2008.. Our colors are sage green and yellow with yellow white and purple daisies for our flowers.

Outside wedding... metal arches?
I think you should use silk flowers to decorate instead of plastic. And I agree with Amanda P, who suggested using tulle. Other than that, I think your ideas are fine . . . and your chosen colors sound very pretty.

You can get rose garlands here:

http://www.thebridesbouquet.com/receptio...
Reply:Just the arch will look kinda plain. You will need a little landscaping at both sides of the arch to "soften" the look. You may choose potted flowers at both sides of the arch.

You may want to source for another garland to compliment your theme. How about working on colorful daises? Where are you getting your wedding bouquet? You may want to buy from the same florist. Just a suggestion.

Congratulations!
Reply:I think it will look fine if you keep it simple. Keep the organza %26amp; flowers to a minimum since they are a synthetic element %26amp; will be in a natural element.

Maybe you could find some good-looking greenery to add to it too. The more natural it looks the better when putting something like this outside.
Reply:Have you tried a local craft store? They usually have the same stuff and it doesn't have to be shipped. Along with the flowers too!

Also, have you tried BigLots for an arch? I just came back from one down here in Miami and they had one - not with lights but metal for $12. Just a thought!

Congrats on the wedding!
Reply:I've seen those arches at Michael's for under 20.00...also Amazon.com had them for $12. Lights are cheap and easy. I like the first arch but I can't picture your color scheme. The flowers for the 2nd idea seem to fit better but no, don't think the organza would look as good with those. Check ShindigZ.com for the material...they're having a huge sale. There are also fabric flowers, rather than plastic, that you may be able to find cheap...just don't go for silk :) Party supply websites are really your best bet for bargains on things like led tealights, fabrics, centerpieces...how exciting!! Congratulations and have fun with the planning!
Reply:Definitely have the arch....but I think you could use unraveled grapevine wreaths to help disguise the flowers if you needed to....also you might think about using tulle instead of organza - it's cheaper for one and you'd get more for your money.

It all sounds and looks really pretty.

Good Luck!
Reply:I really like the arch, but my honst oppinion on the garland is that it looks a little cheap...you can go to a craft store like Michaels or Jo-anns and they have really nice garland and its cheap! good luck and congrats!!
Reply:The Garland looks way too cheap...I have to agree with the girls on this one, go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby...they have much better quality arches and flowers. And they're not expensive.

Michaels: www.michaels.com

Hobby Lobby: www.hobbylobby.com
Reply:I think if you go to Michaels or a different craft shop they would have a better quality of flowers and they aren't too expense.
Reply:I must point out to you that if you do not use real flowers, your planned arch will completely lack warmth and genuineness in tone.
Reply:i agree with Ashley they have better flowers and they will also have the arch. that way their is not shipping. good luck.

Literary terms in this speech?

Hey, so I have to write about literary terms in this speech... I need to focus on imagery and symbol, and have five others as well. Help please! I can only find a couple... the language confuses me.

There is a willow grows aslant a brook,

That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream;

There with fantastic garlands did she come

Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples

That liberal shepherds give a grosser name,

But our cold maids do dead men's fingers call them:

There, on the pendent boughs her coronet weeds

Clambering to hang, an envious sliver broke;

When down her weedy trophies and herself

Fell in the weeping brook. Her clothes spread wide;

And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up:

Which time she chanted snatches of old tunes;

As one incapable of her own distress,

Or like a creature native and indued

Unto that element: but long it could not be

Till that her garments, heavy with their drink,

Pull'd the poor wretch from her melodious lay

To muddy death.

Literary terms in this speech?
Hoar, meaning gray with age, usually refers to a person. In this speech it is referring to a tree.

Coronet is a crown. Here it is being used to describe a flower (this also happens in Andrew Marvell's poem called _The Coronet_)

Either the flowers or the willow is "clambering to hang" as if it were putting out effort to do something. Personification?

Trophies ... also referring to flowers

A brook (inanimate) is weeping (animation).

The willow is wearing clothes.

Simile: mermaid-like

The flowers lift up the tree (animation to an inanimate object)

The tree then CHANTs (more personification)

Simile: The tree is LIKE a creature ...

The tree's leaves, being wet, are heavy. The poet here pretends they are heavy because they drank something ... personification again?

There is a willow tree next to a river,

and you can see the leaves reflected in the river.

Ophelia came to the tree with lots of garlands of flowers.

She climbed up the tree to hang the flowers,

But the branch brook and she and her garlands fell into the river.

Her dress spread out around her in the water, and they kept her afloat for a little while, while she sang old songs, like someone who didn't know they were in trouble or an animal that was used to it. But, before long, her clothes, wet and heavy, dragged Ophelia into the water and she drowned.

Silk or real flowers ?

Real or silk flowers for your wedding which and why?

I am using a mixture of both.

Silk for the garlands in the hair to better match the wedding colors and due to the time of year the ones I want can only be gotten in silk. Real to carry beacuse they come with the location.

Silk or real flowers ?
Personally Silk! I am doing all silk! I have several reasons why it better than real and there also can be down falls, But the good out weighs the bad.

1.) The one thing I have herd almost every bride say "the flowers were wrong, the ribbon was wrong, the color was wrong" It is the most complained about thing is the flowers.Know you and I know no one else will know the it wrong but the bride always remembers. Silk flowers can be done in advanced and you can see the finished product before your big day.

2.) you don't have to worry about them wilting, not opening, or turning a different color, (I am having white roses and I have seen the real roses turn yellow due to weather conditions) in all her pic you could tell the flowers were dying.

3.) For those brides who have had there flowers dried, cover your eyes. Do you know what they use to dry your flowers? Kitty litter. Yes it true, it the same stuff they just have it in dust form! So you paying way to much for flowers to be set in kitty litter.

4.) You can keep them for ever and ever and never worry about them. Cheaper, They look better than the real thing because most of the time the real ones die before the night up, because they were made so far in advanced.
Reply:I would only do real flowers. I think silk flowers are a bit tacky for such a special day, but do whatever makes you happy!
Reply:I personally prefer real flowers because to me they look better and are more elegant.. Silk flowers are tacky to me and when the wedding is over do you really want to be stuck with 5 silk flower arrangments ?
Reply:We are doing 2 real arrangements to honor those members of our family and friends who are no longer with us. The bouquets and coursages and boutniers will all be silk cause they last forever.
Reply:ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS REAL FLOWERS! Nothing tackier than fake flowers at a wedding!
Reply:I went with all silk, Me and my mother did all the flower arrangements and carry. it was cheaper and I could get what color I wanted to.

I will have my flowers for ever and can share them with are children. they look butterfly with are wedding pitchers.
Reply:For the bouquets, corsages, and boutonniere I will use real flowers except for my FMIL because she loves silk flowers. I will use pink silk rose petals to decorate the reception tables because my centerpieces are simple.
Reply:Real. Flowers are an important part of the day, in that my flowers aren't traditional. I'm doing a non-traditional bouquet for myself- only because I think I should carry something up the aisle because free hands look weird in that situation, as well as my maids. And the centerpieces will have tulips, but also in a non-traditional way. It's hard to explain. I give up

I'm not doing silk for two reasons: I don't like silk flowers, and I don't want to have them lying around after the wedding being that we'll probably be moving shortly afterwards.

What was this girl doing?

Ok, so we met like two weeks ago, and spent some time together in this outdoorsy missions class offered at our school, and we talked a little, and she was really flirty, I think. She made a garland for me out of little white flowers, and yesterday put her legs on mine while I sat next to her...and then she called me over to the couch (you know, with her index finger, kinda foxy-like) late at night in the lodge when few others were around and we studied for today's final...but I made sure nothing happened, and cleared out with the rest. What was she doing?

What was this girl doing?
She was trying to seduce you.

Good for you not to go for the bait. She seems a little too desperate, considering you've known her for 2 weeks.
Reply:are you really asking "What was she doing" ?? how many women/girls have you been around? she is attracted to you, and obviously wants you, for more than a 'Study Partner'.

read the signs............... obviously you cant.....................

she is flirting with you, she wants you, if you feel the same then you need to try to advance on it, or it will surpass you. Women are impatient, and she will move on and leave you in the dust, or sitting on the couch, or standing in the isle. I think (and I could be wrong) that the garland is a sign (in some places) of this. the fact that she made something for you from her heart, should have sent off a ton of lightning bolts, and the come hither finger, is a naughty sexy way of saying i want you, right now. not lets study.........
Reply:I think it is called, "trying to make a connection". Now you need to return the favor by calling her and seeing how she is doing and finding out more about her.

I think the ball is now in your court, good luck!
Reply:Selling herself to a potential buyer. Or just torturing a buyer without enough money.
Reply:It sounds like she likes you.If you have the same feelings then spend some extra time with her and see how things go.I would take it slow too.Good for you;)

Good luck!
Reply:she was trying to catch ur attention or something like that. maybe she liked u the first time she saw you

Tips for planning a cheap wedding.?

Ok so we have the basics down.

Along with our large wedding we are having a smaller wedding with my very close family and his families close friends and family. This is an Indian Hindu wedding to respect and honor his heritage and families faith. We have the basics down...

Rentals (tent, fans and air conditioning, china, glasses, chairs, silverware, linens, tables %26amp; dance floor)

$2,000

Caterers (they also provide chafing dishes and servers. Include appetizer, naan, parentha, 3 veg dish, 2 meat, 2 rice, and 2 dessert. Coffee, tea, and lassi)

$2,000

DJ (with Indian mc)

$950

Flowers for Mundup, and garlands

$750

Bar (open bar, sodas, and water)

$1,000

Invites (RSVP cards, and postage include.)

$350

My father is building our Mundup and fire plate for us, we are not including our clothing in the budget. This leaves only $3,500 for everything else. Ok so my question is

What can I do for favors, and centerpieces on such a tight budget (about 100

Tips for planning a cheap wedding.?
Here is an interesting blog about a Hindu wedding... http://www.samaystudio.com/blog/labels/W...

Good info: http://weddings.iloveindia.com/indian-we...

It looks like pinks and reds and golds are the rich wedding colors. you could incorporate those into the decor

Some ideas:

Centerpieces: a large round mirror that laid flat on the table in the center. On the mirror place a 3-inch tall large round glass dish that is filled with water. In the bowl float large orange marigolds and red rose candles. On the mirror rim, sprinkle red and deep pink rose petals, and place two pairs of green pears (pairs of pears) and gold votive candles. The result is romantic and lovely using the "Indian" colors.

Favors: An Indian wedding might include a sachet of cardamom pods to make the traditional cardamom tea served at Hindu weddings. http://images.della.com/ngs/WeddingChann...

Exotic incense sticks like sandalwood, to burn in the room to create a refreshing and pure atmosphere would definitely add to the senses.

Best wishes..................

Reply:well first off, congrats, i hope it lasts long second, i think you could find a much cheaper DJ, the most i've seen is... maybe 500. I would tell u where to find a good dj, but i have no clue here u live.

you need to go to a dollar store, it can still be a beautiful wedding, even w/ a few things from a dollar store.
Reply:Some neat ideas for centrepieces would be to get bowls and float candles in them, or little drinking glasses of various heights with ribbons fitting of the theme wrapped and tied around the middle-- each with a candle floating in water. You can put a little round mirror underneath to reflect the light back up. I think that would be pretty! Or how about several shortish vases with pretty branches/leaves, stuff you could gather in nature, if it's a more earthy theme.

Help with a "Welcome Home" party?

My hubby is coming home from Afghanistan on the 14 May 07. He has to go to Fort Drum, New York before he can come back to Alabama. I am throwing him a surprise party when he gets to Alabama but what am I missing? Here is what I got so far:

Balloons, garland, plates, cups, napkins, American flags, chips, pretzels, frozen meats (chicken, steaks, ribs, etc.), grill, stereo, tablecloths, sparkle candles, can drinks, cake mixes and icing for the cake and cupcakes, those decoration things that you put on cakes and cupcakes, roasting pans and covers or the meat to go in, plastic utensils, lots of decorations that can be put in the ground (red, white, and blue flowers, flag pinwheels, etc.), I am going to invite the people later since I don't know the exact day he will be here, bags of ice I will buy closer to party, and that's all I have. I want this to be HUGE! He is gettting out of the Army on medical discharge and I want this to be the best for him. What else can I get? More foods? What?

Help with a "Welcome Home" party?
If you haven't already, you should go ahead and tell everyone who you want to be there about your tentative plans - - even though you don't know exactly when your husband's coming home, tell them when you think it might be, just so they'll be sure not to make other plans.

Is there anything that your husband has mentioned he has really missed while he was away? Maybe a favorite candy or food or drink? It would be cool to have a big display of that -- a pyramid of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or something like that. :-)

Does your husband have a favorite hobby or pass time that he's looking forward to? Maybe you could have his friends bring something to the party related to that. I can't reallly think of anything, but maybe something like - if he loves baseball, have his favorite team's schedule printed up or have guests bring baseball cards -- stuff like that.

Is the party outside? You could hang an old sheet on a clothesline or side of a building and have everyone write "welcome home" messages with fabric markers.

How about games? Do your friends play "bag-o" or horsehoes or cards or anything like that?

If you can, be sure to involve your friends and family in pulling this off. I think a party's a lot more fun when you're sharing the planning. If you know someone who makes the world's greatest potato salad, ask her to bring a bowl - that kind of thing. It makes people feel good to be asked, and it helps you cross a few things off of your "to do" list!

Good luck with your party - - I know it's going to be great!

Buy these at Sam's or the PX in quantity. You're already way ahead of the game.

Now then, What's more important is after wards. Be sure to have a bottle of the best champagne you can find, a pretty negligee, and send the kids to Grandma's.

Welcome home big guy - and know we're proud of you! Thanks!

Antique Obernail hand painted choclate tray. Over 200 yrs. 2 stamps on back. Flawless. Estimated value????

My mother referred to this tray as a choclate, hot choclate, or hot cocoa tray. It was her grandmothers. I believe the tray could be 150-200 years old. The sceen is beautiful. There are 10 women, from another century, 1 man, a bycicle. They are making snowballs. The tray is bordered by flowers and bows. Such a beautiful garland. Must see to appreciate. Not so much as a scratch or nick. The Obernai FAIENCERIES Sarreguemines logo has a garland type border surrounding it. One of the two stamps on the back appears to have been imprinted, I believe it is 1G, the second stamp has a small e and then a capital R the letter next to it, I believe is a small t. The small e is brown? whereas the other two letters are green.

If anyone could give me some history on this tray (app. 14 inches long and 6 inches wide, I would really appreciate it. I know that it is very old, as I am 53 and it was my mothers grandmother. I am interested in determining its monetary value as well.

It is French faience - which is a type of glaze - and it is from the late 19th Century. Check out the completed Ebay listings below to see if you see anything similar. It sounds lovely and without seeing the decoration I can only give a very general estimate of $100 - $300. Hope this helps!

Cats and Christmas?

"Oh! What is this giant green thing...it's sparkly...I think I will chew it!" %26lt;-my cats thought process

Ok, I have a small apartment and two cats. One is a big lazy lump and the other one....well....my favorite phrase about him is "what is he into NOW!?"

I put up my Christmas tree this weekend, put it on a 2ft high sturdy table, duct taped the base to the table, and wired the top to the ceiling. I put it in their favorite window so they can look at the lights close without being IN the tree. They can tell that the fake tree branches are not strong enough to support them; I watched them test the branches and then give up.

I have not decorated it yet, and I have not bought anything to decorate it yet. I need help! I already know no tinsel and unbreakable ornaments; small lights are less breakable than large, and to keep the wires in the center of the tree to keep chew temptation down. What I am stuck on is garland. I can’t do ribbon or any of the tinsel like garland. I have also discovered that they like to attack fake flowers… and my Thanksgiving centerpiece suffered. They will obviously eat anything like threaded popcorn or nuts. I can not lock them in another room at any point (again, small place - the bedroom houses a hamster and fish). This is my first Christmas away from home and my first Christmas with Cats – any tips (tree or other) you can give me would be a huge help!

Cats and Christmas?
Ha!Ha!Ha! I'm laughing but not at you but because I know exactly what you're going through!! I have a small apt. and 2 cats myself that are just a handful!!! Okay, first thing I can think of to tell you is about the tree. I bought a 3ft. high tree that I am able to pick up by the base and set it in my spare bedroom when I leave my apt. It might be a pain, but it's worth it because my tree stays intact and I know it's safer for my kitties. Small lights won't make a difference; it'll just make it easier to fit in their mouthes. No holly, misteltoes, or pointsettas; they're poisonuos. No small decorations or anything with string. Getting a small enough tree to put in another room like I do is the best suggestion I can give you. This way your cats still have the run of the apt. too.
Reply:this is like any other thing you should teach your cats - "no". You might try a spray water bottle and spray them everytime they attack the tree accompanied by a firm "no" and sharp clap of your hands.

Do not have anything hanging below the bottom branches that will bait them.

You and they will be OK, millions of kitties kearn not to attack the Christmas tree. I hope they have a scrtahcing psot - this is a good substitute for their attention.

BTW, you may NOT want to put their Christmas presents under you tree - cats seem to know when it is their's espcecially if there is cat nip in it!! We keep our kitty gifts on top of the fridge till we are ready to gove them to them.

Enjoy and have a happy and safe Christmas
Reply:I have a couple of terrorist cats, too. I put my ornements on ribbons %26amp; I skip the garland (it didn't stay on the tree long). I usually put small plastic ornements on the bottom so they can swat at them %26amp; hopefully won't attack anything else. I usually have to straighten the tree skirt a couple of times a day.

the kitties think this is a great new toy you made just for them (you're their maid after all). with cats, the best thing is to try %26amp; distract them.
Reply:I don't know about garland I don't use it. What type of garland are you thinking about getting - the shiny stuff?

They might find it tempting to play with - but since it's so inexpensive you might try one box of it and see what happens. I was thinking about really wide ribbon though.

That might work and the fabric stores and seasonal departments in other stores have such a wide variety of it.

Perhaps you might consider getting that and spraying it with something like bitter apple or another kind of cat repellant just as an extra precaution. That was a really good idea about taping the base and wiring the top I think I will try it when I put up my tree this year. We have a new cat that has not experienced the Christmas tree yet.

LL
Reply:Dont worry, I put my tree on the table by the window this weekend, when I went outside for a second my cat had already knocked it down. Luckily its a smaller tree. I HIGHLY suggest getting non breakable ornaments. They even make nice ball decorations in a bunch of colors that are shatterproof, I saw them at walmart. If they knock of a ornanment and it breaks then can cut themselves.. So i just tell my cat NO and take him down everytime he goes to it, its been 3 days and he is getting better.. Good Luck, Merry Christmas!
Reply:We have the same problem -- new kitten that's still in that eat/hunt/sleep/break things phase. No brains in that tiny little skull yet.

They'll find a way to bring down any tree or decorations or anything else that looks attractive. My suggestion is either resign yourself to uprighting the tree or ornamants a lot, or stick to window decals this year.

You could garland with popcorn which, while it may be eaten, at least won't hurt them.

Okay, strike that. The vet says popcorn is bad for cats.

You could decorate with kitty treats strung around the tree.
Reply:Thats a hard one. I have cats and I don't put trees up, I work in a veterinart hospital so I get the pleasure of seeing all the scary things. A few sugestions don't turn on the lights that will just attract them even more, sorry. You can put something arounthe tree that would have to step on to get to the tree, like a plastic carpet runner, those ones that have the little pokie things on the under side, put that wrong side up so when the step on it to get to the tree they don't like the way it feels so they don't go up there. or the old spray bottle works. I wouldn't let them go by the tree at all. The pine needles alone are dangerous. I also would't use any garland or tinsel at all, also hang the ornaments with the string that comes on them, no hooks. Also no popcorn can cause pancreatitis.
Reply:They have fake snow that comes in spray cans. It actually looks really pretty. Perhaps you could spray your tree with snow for added decoration instead of garland. Sounds like your cats are something else though, hopefully they wouldn't decide that spray snow is yummy. I think its worth a shot!
Reply:yes be very aware of use both electric lightbulp and a live candle lights the cable is so thin that the cats easely can thew it over ( if you do remember the national lampoon christmas movie with chevy chase ) but else if you not will feel a little lonely with only the animals, then i´m sure that you might get a cozy couple of days with good meal ps i did seen your notice about that you have the money cheats for fish tycoon i will love to get it very much have it nice and a pleansent christmas sincerly Flemming from denmark in europe
Reply:Dude....trust me. Water bottle. when you see those little buggers even walking toward that tree, squirt them. Pretty soon they'll associate the tree play with having to lick water off their bums. It's the only feasible way of teaching them. ALSO! I bought this stuff called "Bitter Break" it comes in several different names, but it's the same thing...it's a non-toxic sour-bitter spray you can spray on the bottom branches, the lower ornaments, and the trunk. It will taste horrible to your sweeties and they'll remember to stay away. It'll taste horrible to you too, so be careful about your hands. Works on electrical wires too (although wipe it on the wires instead of spraying). Probably wasn't a good idea to put the tree near their favorite place to sit, either, that was just tempting them more.

Also: some more things I did. Good to get a fake tree, as the real trees are toxic and the smell is too tempting. NO TINSEL. They're not smart enough to avoid eating it, and it can kill them. Hang nothing on the last branch (dangling is bad), and use the little metal hooks on the ornaments so you can literally wrap the ornament around the treebranch and it won't come off.

Other than that, just be patient and consistent with them. It's only been three days and my kitten is already starting to lose interest in our tree. Good luck!
Reply:afj;lkdf;kalfddfjlksdljksdljdf
Reply:One thing you didn't bring up is the presents under the tree. My experience with my cats is that they LOVE the ribbon on packages. This is not good, unless you like sick cats and finding multi-colored cat puke with ribbon fragments festooning your house. You really want to keep the ribbon away from the kitties. I would advise you to put presents out only at the last minute and make sure you clean up wrappings ASAP.

You may have to accept that the cats will be attracted to the tree and just deal with the consequences. It sounds like you understand most of the safety issues. It goes without saying that any time you are away from your apartment, make sure the tree is unplugged in case it gets knocked over.

It's my experience that cat ownership means making some sacrifices. For us, that's meant that there are some ornaments we just don't put on the tree because of the risk of having them broken. While you can't put tinsel or ribbon garland up on your tree, there are lots of beaded and plastic icicle garlands that you can put up and that are safe around your kitties.

Good luck and enjoy your Kitty Christmas. Remember the first rule of cat ownership: chaos rules! Enjoy. ;-))

In James Hurst's The Scarlet Ibis, the setting provides a profound meaning to the overall theme of the story. In the story, many negligent decisions are made. Hurst seems to be saying that every decision you make in life affects not only you, but the people around you as well. My theme statement is "a person cannot change someone from who they truly are, and it is just as valuable to be unique as it is to fit in." The style in the story creates a suspense for the reader. The settings I am using that relate to the theme are the cloves of summer, The yard, Old Woman Swamp.

The opening scene is example of an image used in this story. In the first paragraph, the narrator describes the flowers

around his childhood home as “stained with rotting brown magnolia petals” and “graveyard flowers.” He describes an abandoned bird’s nest as “an empty cradle.” Those phrases mean that the grave yard flowers were flowers given to the dead. The cradle empty cradle personifies how a cradle represents a baby and now that its empty it represents a dead baby. Even the scent of the flowers that surround him is described as “speaking softly the names of our dead.” This complex description refers to the aspects of nature with words that remind the reader of death. Hurst is creating an atmosphere of approaching tragedy to set the reader know what The Scarlet Ibis is about. It brings peoples mind to a picture of degradation, and the phrases add an awful note of solemn, eerie doom.

Old woman Swamp and the happy times the boys spent there are described in vivid, glowing terms. The honeysuckle and water lilies are woven into wreaths and crowns which transform the boys into youthful kings of this glorious, luxurious paradise "beyond the reach of the everyday world." "The slanted rays of the sun burn orange in the pines," and thus the fantastic day of splendor comes to an almost divine conclusion. This eloquent passage produces in the reader's mind a brilliant image of peace, beauty, and happiness. Old Woman Swamp embodies nature's abundance and beauty. For Brother and Doodle, it seems to signify a world of infinite possibilities and the glory of life. Doodle cries with wonder when he first sees it, and the boys gather wild flowers and make garlands and crowns with which to bedeck themselves. The suggestion is that this is a place where they feel royal, beautiful, and wealthy, the flowers are referred to as "jewels". Old Woman Swamp is also where Brother teaches Doodle to walk, which, in spite of its disastrous outcome, represents a widening of Doodle's horizons. Doodle fantasizes about living a blissful existence in Old Woman Swamp.

The last scene in the tale showed how " the older brother" really felt about his brother. Walking back, he finds Doodle curled up next to a nightshade bush, dead and bleeding because his heart burst, with similarities to the dead Scarlet Ibis they found. He "lay there crying, sheltering his fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain". The rain drips incessantly from the gray clouds onto Doodle, his thin neck gleaming sharply red, and the fallen elder brother sheltering his "fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain." This heartrending passage calls forth an image of desolate grief that the lone brother feels for his lifeless sibling. It shows how the challenge they had to go through was not worth it.

Image is truly the most important element in the style of this story. The story reveals a truth about the effects of love and pride.

The weather leads to the death of Doodle and the scarlet ibis. it lead to the ibis's death because the bird was trying to fly home and a storm brought it to the family's home, where it died. As for doodle, when his brother the narrator left him despite his cries for help, a tree snapped ,because of the lightning, and crushed doodle's body. Honestly, If you had a brother with a disability like doodle would you have helped him learn how to walk and watched him every second or would you have been selfish and helped him so he wasn't weird like his older brother.

I need some one(some what of teahcer) to proof read and give help on my little essay thingy?
The first paragraph "the opening scene" is good, but how come you never talk about the "clove of seasons" again? You mention how you will relate it to the theme, but then never do. I think that the last paragraph is too opinionated, as you should never use the pronoun "you" in an essay, because you are telling the reader how to think.

Homemade halloween costumes ideas (look or else) muhaha!?

Here are some of (SOME) of my homemade halloween costume ideas for one person and groups! ENJOY (OR ELSE)

Btw hope yall have a happy halloween

One person costumes:

1. Ghost

Don’t just stick the sheet over your head! Instead, cut a neck hole from an old sheet and wear it over your body. Take a second sheet, and drape and pin it (like a toga) to add a floaty, ghostly flair. Powder your face and your hair white, and drape light chains over your shoulders.

2. Witch

To make a witch’s hat from poster board, cut one large circle for the brim, then cut out the space where the head will fit. Cut another large circle, and cut a slit into the center of the circle. Also cut one-inch slits all around the outside of the circle to make tabs. Wrap this circle around to make a cone, then attach the cone to the brim with the tabs (use masking tape to hold the tabs). Spray paint the entire hat black. Wear black flowing clothes and striped leggings.

3. Mummy

Cut strips of off-white fabric, like muslin or cheesecloth, and wrap around the arms, legs, body, and head, but make sure the mummy can see and breathe!

4. Zombie

Take any old clothes and distress them by fraying the edges and dusting with talcum powder. Pick a theme---you could be a zombie groom, cheerleader, or waitress.

5. Skeleton

Using white or glow-in-the-dark fabric paint, paint a skeleton onto black sweats. Use face paints to make your face look like a skull.

6. Vampire

Wrap a large piece of dark velvet around your neck for a cape. Pin in place with an old brooch. Wear dark clothes in romantic fabrics like crushed velvet and satin.

7. Cat

Start with a leotard and tights. Make a tail by stuffing a tube of fabric. Ears are easy to make from a headband and cardboard. You can also use fake fur for the ears and tail or to trim the leotard. Use face paint to make your eyes look cat-like and to add whiskers.

8. Dog

Add felt spots to a white or brown sweatsuit. Make floppy dog ears out of felt, and hot glue them to a headband. Paint a puppy dog face, complete with a big spot around one eye, to complete the costume.

9. Bumblebee or Ladybug

Paint poster board to look like the body and wings of a bumblebee or ladybug. Wear with leotard and tights to match, and attach wires to a headband for antennae.

10. Butterfly

Sew two long pieces of bright, shimmery fabric down the back of a long-sleeved leotard. Sew the other end of each piece to the underside of a sleeve, so that when you lift your arms, your wings flutter out. Add antennae.

11. Spider

Wear black clothes. Make six tubes of black fabric, and sew three on each side of your shirt or leotard. Tie each set of three legs together with strings, and attach the strings to your shirt sleeves so that when you move your arms, all of your legs move, too.

12. Nun

A nun’s habit is a basic black tunic (a shapeless dress with long sleeves). If you have a sewing machine, then you can make a tunic! Look online for patterns. Add a white collar to the habit. Then, measure a strip of white poster board to fit around your head, and hot glue black fabric to this strip. Bobby-pin the poster board to your hair.

13. Friar or Monk

Make a brown tunic, and wrap a simple rope around the waist.

14. Lady in Waiting

Make a simple, velvet tunic dress, or look in thrift stores for a long-sleeved, floor-length, dress. Wrap gold cording under the bustline to create an Empire waist, and crisscross the cording in front. Make a cone hat (like for the witch’s hat, only leave off the brim), and attach a translucent scarf to the top of the hat.

15. Fairy

Make a short, sleeveless tunic in a light, flowing fabric, or wear a leotard and a tulle skirt (which you can make by stitching gathered tulle to a strip of elastic). You can make wings by bending coat hangers into the desired shape and covering with white pantyhose. Tie the wings to the body by crossing in front and wrapping under the bustline.

16. Angel

Make a short, sleeveless tunic dress, similar to the fairy’s, or wear light, flowing clothes. Make a halo from tinsel garland. Follow the fairy directions for wings.

17. Devil

Sculpt horns from papier mache or plaster of paris strips (you can find this in any craft or hobby store). Attach these to a headband with additional papier mache or plaster of paris strips, and paint red. You can also make a pitchfork from the same material, and attach to a wooden dowel or a broomstick handle.

18. Fairy Godmother

Begin with an existing secondhand prom dress or any shiny, sparkly skirt and a leotard. Then gather fabric (tulle, satin, or any shimmery material) around your waist, and stitch or staple it so that it drapes down the skirt. Create a wand and a crown from any stiff paper, and decorate with paint, rhinestones, sequins, and glitter.

19. Statue of Liberty

Use light green fabric to make a toga. Make the crown from cardboard. For her torch, use a toilet paper tube painted to match the fabric, and glue red and orange tissue paper to the top for flames.

20. Roman Athlete

Wear a toga, and make a laurel wreath from fake leaves. Wear plain sandals, or try spray painting sandals gold and crisscrossing gold cord around your legs.

21. Father Time

Cut a sickle out of cardboard and spray paint it silver. Glue it onto a long wooden rod (like a broom handle). Wear a black toga, and carry the sickle and a clock or an hourglass.

22. Mother Nature

Wear a neutral-toned, long-sleeved leotard and tights. Drape shimmering, translucent blue and green fabric like a toga and safety pin to the leotard. Attach fake flowers and leaves to the draped fabric, and tuck a few flowers behind your ear.

23. Caveman or Cavewoman

Make a toga from animal print fabric. Cut the edges into jagged points. Carry a club.

24. Bobby Soxer

A poodle skirt is easy to make from a large piece of felt. Cut a large circle, and then cut out the waist to fit. Sew elastic to the inside of the waist, and hem the bottom. Then make the poodle (or any other shape) out of felt, and glue to the skirt with fabric glue. Use pompoms and rickrack to decorate. Wear with a simple blouse, a scarf around the neck, saddle shoes, and white socks, and pull your hair into a ponytail.

25. Flapper

Begin with a basic shift dress, and use fabric glue to attach fringe in layers, or you can simply wear a pretty slip and a string of fake pearls. To make the flapper headpiece, cut a length of sequined elastic to fit snugly around your head, then stitch the ends together. Use craft glue to add a feather. Finish the costume with fishnet stockings and heels.

26. Tourist

Wear a tacky, Hawaiian print shirt, khaki shorts, sandals with socks, sunglasses, and a camera around your neck.

27. Beauty Pageant Queen

Make a sash from satin, and use glitter paint to write your title on the sash. Wear an old formal or prom dress and a tiara (or make your own crown from cardboard and plastic jewels). Carry a bouquet of fake roses.

28. Jailbird

Paint white stripes on a black sweatshirt and sweatpants. Make a ball and chain by wrapping bunched-up newspaper in papier mache or plaster of paris strips and painting it black when it dries, then use strips of cardboard (painted black) for the chain.

29. Rag Doll

Wear old, baggy clothes and striped tights. Stitch or safety pin squares of rags to your costume for patches. Make two long braids from red yarn and sew to the inside of an old hat.

30. Scarecrow

Wear a flannel shirt and overalls, and stuff the ends of the sleeves and pant legs with straw. Top with an old porkpie hat.

31. Swashbuckler or Pirate

Wear tight black pants tucked into black boots and a white, peasant-style top. Make a cape by wrapping any fabric around your shoulders and pinning with an old brooch. Cut cardboard into a sword and spray paint it or wrap in tin foil.

32. Gypsy

Wear layered, colorful, flowing garments. Tie a scarf around your hair, and wear large hoop earrings, jangly bracelets, and a chunky costume necklace. Carry a deck of cards to tell fortunes.

33. Mermaid

Begin with nude-colored leotard and fishnet tights. Wrap a long piece of shimmery material around your waist---it should trail on the floor behind you---and stitch it together in the front. Cut the fabric that trails on the floor into a fish-tail. If you can find two large plastic shells, use low-temp hot glue to attach these over your leotard. If not, then cut shell shapes out of the same shimmery fabric. Accessorize with plastic seaweed (the kind used in fish tanks) and fishnet.

34. Bellydancer

Add sequined elastic, fringe, and beads to an existing bra or bikini top. Wear a coordinating skirt and sandals.

35. Hula Dancer

A grass skirt is easy to make! At a craft store, purchase green and brown raffia, and staple it in bunches to a long strip of fabric. Wear a brightly colored, flowered bathing suit, and wrap the grass skirt around your waist. String fake flowers to make a lei.

36. Cabaret Dancer

Wear a black leotard, fishnet tights, and heels. Make a showgirl-style headpiece by cutting a half circle from cardboard. Attach this firmly to a headband with masking tape. Paint the entire half circle (front and back) black, and cover with black glitter. Hot glue three long peacock feathers to the back of the half-circle. Don’t forget the red lipstick!

37. Superhero

Wear sweatpants and a sweatshirt in your superhero’s colors (or make up your own superhero). Make the superhero’s logo from felt, and glue it to the sweatshirt. Make an easy cape by wrapping a piece of fabric around your shoulders; hold it together with safety pins.

38. Clown

Wear bright, oversized clothes, like plaid pants, a striped shirt, suspenders, and a large bowtie. Look in thrift stores for a pair of shoes that is way too big, then put one of your own pair of shoes inside the oversized pair so that you can wear them without falling over. Clown costumes can also be made from old band or baton twirler costumes, western wear, and secondhand suits (think hobo!). See the Rag Doll directions on how to make a yarn wig.

39. Jack-in-the-box

Cut armholes and legholes from a large box, and decorate the box to look like a jack-in-the-box. Leave the top of the box completely open, and make “suspenders” for the box by cutting long strips of bright fabric and stapling them firmly. Attach large pompoms to a long-sleeved, brightly colored shirt and wear striped leggings or tights. Add a jester’s hat and clown makeup.

40. Robot

Use a large box, and cut arm, leg, and neck holes. Spray paint the box silver, and use pipe cleaners, wire, and tin foil to make dials and other robot parts. Make a tin foil hat, and add wires for antennae.

41. Television

Cut out the front of the box to make a television screen. Cut a neck hole in the bottom of the box, and wear the box on your head. Use pipe cleaners to make antennae. Dress as a newscaster and carry a microphone to be a “talking head”.

42. Lego Piece

Take two circular cardboard boxes (you can find these in a craft or hobby store), and attach them with masking tape to the large box. Cut holes for your arms, legs, and neck, and spray paint the entire box a bright color.

43. Gift

Cover a large box in wrapping paper, and add a large bow (or wear the bow on your head). Cut holes for your arms, legs, and neck.

44. Animal in a Pet Store

Start with any animal costume, like a cat or a dog. Using a craft knife, carefully cut strips out of a large refrigerator box to create a cage. Cut leg holes out of the bottom, and spray paint the entire box metallic silver. Attach a sign to the “cage” that says “Kittens 4 Sale” or “Puppies 4 Sale”.

45. Bug Caught In Spider’s Web

Start with your desired insect costume. Make a large web by tying and knotting white rope or yarn. Attach this web to the back of your costume---make sure to attach it to your arms and legs so that you seem stuck in the web.

46. Person Taking a Bath

Cut leg holes in a large, plastic tub. Glue cotton balls (for bubbles) all around the top of the tub, and attach a small rubber ducky to the side. Wear a nude-colored leotard and tights and a shower cap, and carry a scrub brush.

47. Playing Card

Take two large pieces of poster board. Set the two pieces on top of each other and punch one hole about six inches from both corners. Use heavy yarn, rope, or fabric to tie the two pieces of poster board together. Paint both sides of a sandwich board to look like a playing card, such as the Queen of Hearts (add a crown and wear red underneath) or a Joker (add a jester’s hat and wear brightly colored clothes).

48. Clock

Follow the directions for the playing card, only cut the two pieces of poster board into circles and paint to look like a clock’s face. You could also add movable hour and minute hands by cutting these shapes out of additional poster board and attaching in the center. Wear brown or black clothes underneath.

49. Fried Egg or Deviled Egg

Begin with a white sheet, and paint a large yellow circle in the center (or glue on a circle from yellow felt). Cut holes for your arms and neck. Add horns and a pitchfork to be a deviled egg.

50. Spaghetti and Meatballs

Take a brown or red sheet, and use fabric glue to stick on large red or brown pompoms (for the meatballs). Cut holes for your arms and neck. The stringy part of a mop (a new one) becomes the spaghetti---using low-temp hot glue, attach it to the inside of a plastic bowl, and wear the bowl on your head.
